Abstract

A new scheme proposed for the design of high-power, heavy-current nanosecond generators incorporates a VPG [voltage-pulse generator] of low voltage (U≲0.5 MV) for that type of unit, a relatively slow-fed (π≳2.5 µsec) inductive accumulator, an exploding-wire interrupter, fast forming lines, and a transmission line terminating in a vacuum diode. The performance of a subterawatt generator with an initial stored energy of ∼ 100 kJ that was designed and placed in service on the basis of this scheme confirmed the principal assumptions and concepts that it embodies.
