Abstract
- This chapter documents a unique activism mobilized by Japanese business-interest civil society organizations (CSOs). Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing society in the twenty-first century. As such, civil society plays a central role in the creation and implementation of climate policy. One of its important functions is to translate global, technocratic imperatives into local political economies. Knox-Hayes examines the role of business civil society actors in the formation and execution of climate policy in Japan, focusing specifically on a business federation—the Keidanren—and the role of its political economic culture.
