Abstract
- Power from the distributed energy renewable sources DER’s must be controlled to match the load requirements. A control scheme should be adopted to regulate the power flow from the DERS to maintain quality and reliability of supply. Integration of this DER’s that are fundamentally active transforms the distribution network further into a multi-source system allowing two-way power flows. Major concerns associated with these are voltage and frequency imbalance in the system. In this paper, different faults in a smart grid are characterized and classified. Methods used to identify these faults are systematically reviewed and reported with a view of identifying the challenges and the trends.
