Bioactive glasses for wound healing

Bioactive and soluble glasses have the potential for use in wound-healing applications. Metal oxides may be incorporated into either silicate- or phosphate-based glasses in order to controllably release antimicrobial or angiogenic ions. This chapter discusses the effect of various ions on the chemical and biological properties of these types of glasses.
