Recent Insights into the Antihypertensive Mechanism of Action of Ketanserin

Present evidence in man is clear and consistent in showing a minor or negligible role of α-1 antagonism in the antihypertensive action of ketanserin. An interaction between marked 5HT-2 and weak α-1 antagonism is by contrast a distinct possibility. The clinical role, if any, of ketanserin in depleting monoamine pools requires to be examined.
