Abstract

Convective heat and mass transports are important in the high-temperature metallurgical processing in order to optimize the reaction process as well as to ensure the material quality during solidification and during the crystal growth process. Besides of forced and natural convection, the interfacial convection in the vicinity of the interfaces plays an important role in total transport process. In this chapter, the basic explanations on interfacial convection are provided at first and the effect of interfacial flow in the reaction technique (liquid–liquid, gas–solid, liquid–solid) and in solidification process are then presented. After the basic explanations, the effect of interfacial flow in the reaction technique (liquid–liquid, gas–liquid, liquid–solid) and in solidification process will be presented.
