Abstract: The reaction of the 3-acetate of the 20-ketal of 16α,17α-oxido-Δ5-pregnenol-3β-one-20 with methylmagnesium iodide and subsequent hydrolysis of the reaction product yielded 16β-methyl-Δ5-pregnenediol-3β −17α-one −20. 18-Nor-17β-methyl-17-iso-Δ5.11-pregnadienediol-3β,16β-one-20 was formed as a by-product.
