Abstract

In this paper, the optimum operation of single winding single phase self-excited induction generator has been investigated with series and shunt capacitor configurations. The optimum capacitors values for different configurations are obtained using the genetic algorithm for optimum voltage regulation. The optimization is carried out under MATLAB where fsolve is used to find the magnetizing reactance and generated frequency for optimum capacitances and given prime mover speed. With such optimal values of capacitors, the steady state performance of single winding self-excited induction generator found satisfactory and similar to two winding self-excited induction generator.
