Abstract

Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is one of the classic diseases in neurology with an easily recognized clinical pattern of acral paresthesias, ascending generalized weakness, and areflexia. This syndrome has typical presentations and several variants, as well as variable electrodiagnostic features, and treatment modalities including the selection of immunomodulating agents. This chapter reviews the current views of the pathogenesis and clinical presentations of GBS, its electrodiagnostic features, differential diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. A review of GBS variants follows the discussions of classical GBS.
