Abstract
- As the higher education sector experiences the impact of globalisation and declining public funding, sustainability remains a compelling issue for educators to address at an institutional level and more broadly, for future societies. Within this context, this paper examines the role landscape can play as a platform for Education for Sustainability. Understanding the term Education for Sustainability to be holistic, systemic, connective and ecological rather than content specific, the paper outlines the genesis of landscape as a formal learning environment, and then through case studies reviews the efficacy of landscape as an agent for an integrated pedagogy towards sustainable literacy.
