A STUDY OF THE FLOW CHARACTERISTIC AROUND THE SELF-CLEANING HEART VALVE UNDER PULSATILE CONDITIONS

The self-cleaning prosthetic heart valve was tested under pulsatile flow conditions. The velocity field in the vicinity of the valve was investigated using a laser doppler anemometer. The areas of stagnation are minimum and the wall shear rate is in a physiologically acceptable range for a prosthetic device.
