Rendez-vous avec la nuit

L’univers romanesque de Francis Carco s’est rapidement figé dans le regard du public : lieux électifs de la pègre et personnages, types représentatifs d’une population interlope constituent cette œuvre en littérature de genre. Mais, sans être théoricien, Carco a su utiliser la fiction romanesque afin de proposer une réflexion en creux sur l’usage qu’il fait de ces clichés et le rapport que le public a pu lier avec une production trop vite perçue comme commerciale.
Francis Carco’s novelistic universe quickly developed a reputation with the public: the favored underworld haunts and characters who exemplify the denizens of a shady underbelly mark his work as genre fiction. Though not a theorist, Carco figured out how to use novelistic fiction to indirectly reflect on how he used these clichés and the relationship that the public could imagine with an output all too hastily seen as commercial.
