Abstract
- The AREC team in ME 310 created BUTLER, the User-Centric Smart Home, that serves users to make the home more sustainable, improve resident well-being, and support remote work. Through a network of in-home thermal, electrical, and air quality sensors in conjunction with online weather forecasting and occupancy sensing, BUTLER provides lifestyle integrated suggestions and autonomous control. The user-centric app presents further insight into the energy efficiency of the home on the individual outlet and device level. This report provides the context and motivation for the project and documents the development of the design solution as well as team AREC's prototyping efforts throughout Spring quarter and their final prototype showcased at EXPE 2022.
