Abstract

The nature of the drying process in paper, at two temperatures and various ambient pressures, has been investigated. Apparatus has been developed, and is described, which permits the drying process to be investigated at high vacua, and which is sufficiently sensitive to measure the electrical changes due to a water content of the order of 0-05 % of the weight of cellulose present. A number of theoretical conclusions has been derived from the experimental data, and these are summarized at the end of the paper.
