Abstract

Diseased buffaloes (n=17) were studied in comparison with apparently healthy ones (n=5). The clinical examination revealed loss of appetite, loss of body weight, ruminal stasis, cessation of rumination, constipation with constricted sphincter ani decreased or stoppage of milk yield, normal or subnormal temperature and with or without locomotor distuturbances. Biochemical investigations of blood sera of affected buffaloes showed marked drop in inorganic phosphorus and potassium and elevation of calcium, aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase comparatively with apparently healthy ones. Treatment of hypophosphataemia was by using phosphorus solutions and anti – inflammatory drugs and clinical improvement was detected following therapeutic trials.
