Abstract

This study focuses on the theme of fear in the tale of la Peur by Guy de Maupassant. La ‎Peur contains three stories with a common theme of fear. We focus on the second and third stories. ‎The first story takes place in Algeria and the second story takes place in France. In order to carry out ‎our study, we use both thematic analysis to analyze the theme of fear, and psychology to define the ‎conception of fear. The importance of our study comes from its double psychological and literary ‎value. Maupassant makes a careful study of fear, highlighting a picture of real life dominated by ‎excessive fear. We aim, through this type of study, to always note the importance of literature as a ‎point of intersection between the human sciences on the one hand and humanity on the other hand. ‎We end up with results, the most important of which is that pathological fear is an enemy within us. ‎Pathological fear is not like normal fear constituting an alarm bell against dangers; on the contrary it ‎destroys our life and contaminates our surroundings. We must face it instead of escaping from. This ‎type of story and study is one of the means of developing our knowledge of this destructive ‎emotion at the depth of our souls‎. Key words: Desert, Forester, Fear, Drum, Poacher.
