Abstract
- This study focuses on the theme of fear in the tale of la Peur by Guy de Maupassant. La Peur contains three stories with a common theme of fear. We focus on the second and third stories. The first story takes place in Algeria and the second story takes place in France. In order to carry out our study, we use both thematic analysis to analyze the theme of fear, and psychology to define the conception of fear. The importance of our study comes from its double psychological and literary value. Maupassant makes a careful study of fear, highlighting a picture of real life dominated by excessive fear. We aim, through this type of study, to always note the importance of literature as a point of intersection between the human sciences on the one hand and humanity on the other hand. We end up with results, the most important of which is that pathological fear is an enemy within us. Pathological fear is not like normal fear constituting an alarm bell against dangers; on the contrary it destroys our life and contaminates our surroundings. We must face it instead of escaping from. This type of story and study is one of the means of developing our knowledge of this destructive emotion at the depth of our souls. Key words: Desert, Forester, Fear, Drum, Poacher.
