Abstract
- Agricultural grains, including cereal grains such as wheat, corn and rice, and oil seeds such as soybeans and canola, must be stored, transported, and conveyed using methods that preserve their quality as seeds, food stuffs, or raw materials. Grain quality is maintained by drying grain to moisture contents suitable for long-term storage on farm or in commercial facilities. Grain storage facilities must be designed to withstand loads imposed by the grain along with other environmental loads. Methods to calculate loads on storage structures and applicable design codes are outlined. Methods of handling and transporting grain and modeling techniques to model loads and flow behavior are explained.
