Abstract
- Surface sample studies on the composition of pollen assemblages in the subalpine meadows and the adjacent Fagus scrub/forest in the crest region of the Vosges mountains indicate that: 1. (1) The proportions between the regional pollen types in the forest are different from those in the meadows. 2. (2) Forest- and meadow-type vegetation can be recognised on the basis of the local pollen assemblages. 3. (3) Among the pollen and spores produced by the Fagus scrub/forest only those of Fagus and Dryopteris are transported into the meadows upslope, giving rise to distinctly higher values than the regional ones.
