Abstract

The beta cell mass (BCM) plays a key role in the development and progression of diabetes mellitus. A reliable, non-invasive method for quantification of the pancreatic (BCM) in vivo would give further insight in the pathophysiology of type 1 and 2 diabetes. The glucagonlike peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R) is specifically expressed on beta cells.
