Abstract

Precursor route poly(arylene vinylene) polymers are of considerable interest as electro-optic materials. They show electroluminescent (EL) light emission, charge carrier injection dependent sub-gap optical absorption, and a large electric field dependence of the refractive index close to the π — π* absorption edge. In this paper we focus on the EL response and the factors that limit device performance and we report the results of a specific experiment aimed at enhancing the EL efficiency through the use of copolymer “ quantum-well” structures.
