Abstract

The layout of interchange advance guide signage is very important for traffic safety. The position of the interchange advance guide sign has a strong impact on the effectiveness of an interchange advance guide sign. Some systematic investigation and analysis work has been conducted on the speed data collected by traffic survey equipment. Based on these analyses, the concept of speed curve deviation is proposed, and the algorithm of speed curve deviation ratio is put forward. The average speed curve deviation ratio is used to evaluate the effect of the position of an interchange advance guide sign. The position that minimizes the average speed curve deviation ratio can be considered as the optimal position of an interchange advance guide sign. In this way, the present position of an interchange advance guide sign can also be evaluated. The flow chart for evaluating the position of an interchange advance guide sign is provided.
