Abstract

Insulators in operating state will produce partial discharge under the influence of pollution. Ultraviolet (UV) imaging technology is a new method for detecting insulator discharge. For the partial discharge of polluted insulators, this paper proposes an UV imaging detection method based on the iterative threshold segmentation method. To preprocess the image, the mathematical morphology algorithm is used to remove the discrete noises and the insulator discharge spot is accurately identified. By combining the quantized information of the spot area, the level of the polluted insulator is then detected and the UV images of the insulator are obtained by artificial experiments. The detection examples are provided to verify the feasibility and quality of the method.
