Abstract

Currently, there is no available standardized tool to assess the knowledge of incoming interns in OBGYN as described in Milestones Level 1. We examined the knowledge of fourth-year medical students on a multiple-choice examination based on the OBGYN Milestones Level 1 and compared their performance to students who completed the same questions during their OBGYN clerkship. Medical students’ knowledge on essential topics in OBGYN significantly declined from their OBGYN clerkship to end of their fourth year. This decline in knowledge retention over the continuum of education from UME to GME highlights the need for implementation of residency preparatory courses.
