Abstract: We evaluate limitations in pulse duration for Kerr-lens mode-locked Yb-based thin-disk lasers. The most critical factor is appropriate intracavity dispersion engineering, which enabled operation at 30-fs. Substantially shorter durations are within reach using new designs.
