Abstract: The variation of the CIV 1550A line strength in variable Seyfert I galaxies based on low resolution IUE data is discussed. The results suggest that the Baldwin-relation might not be a reliable distance indicator for QSO’s Seyfert I galaxies vary in a way indicating that the emission line gas is matter bounded when in a high state. For F-9 the transition from photon-bounded to matter bounded occurs at log{L(1350)} ≈ 29.7 erg/sec/Hz.
