Remark on the conductivity sum rule for the optical absorptions of alkali metals

In reference to the optical absorption data for K, Rb, and Cs, it is shown that, when an optical coupling between conduction and core electrons is strong, the Pauli-forbidden transitions of conduction electrons to occupied core states play an important role in the sum rule applied restrictively to the conduction electron system.
