Abstract
- Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) behave as thermal barrier on the aerospace and automotive components to operate at higher working temperatures and diminished cooling prerequisites. Thermal barrier coating is applied on the working substrates by plasma spraying method. Gadolinium oxide (GDO) is used to reduce thermal conductivity and resistance to corrosion and YSZ (Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia) is used to increase the fracture toughness. In the present study, high temperature corrosion behavior of plasma-sprayed single layer YSZ, single layer GDO and multilayer GDO /YSZ based TBCs will be studied by applying 45 wt% sodium sulphate and 55 wt% vanadium oxide as the salt solution at 1000 °C for 50 hrs.
