Abstract
- The hypothesis of sulfur mustard alkalization was first proposed in 1968. The hypothesis states that with alkalization of guanine in the O 6 site, it is no longer possible to repair it with O 2 -alkylguanine-DNA alkyltransferase and as a result, the grounds are prepared for sulfur mustard carcinogenesis. The risk of the carcinogenesis from sulfur mustard following frequent contact even with low doses is proved in different studies. New studies have produced different results suggesting the possibility of carcinogenesis years even after single acute high-dose exposure.
