Entrance channel versus compound nucleus limitations in the fusion process of 1p and 2s-1d shell nuclei

Abstract: The fusion cross sections of systems leading to s-d shell compound nuclei reveal a strong dependence upon the number of valence nucleons of the colliding ions. This striking feature is discussed in terms of entrance channel and compound nucleus effects.
