Synthesis and characterization of dicopper(II,II) and diiron(III,III) complexes with a dinucleating tetraimidazole ligand, 1,5-bis[bis(4-imidazolylmethyl)amino]-3-pentanol

A new dinucleating ligand 1,5-bis[bis(4-imidazolylmethyl)amino]-3-pentanol (Hbipl) has been synthesized. It forms the dicopper(II,II) and diiron(III,III) complexes, [Cu 2 (bipl)Cl](ClO 4 ) 2 ·H 2 O and [Fe 2 (bipl)(OAc) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 3 ·H 2 O, which are characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility measurements, cyclic voltammetry, and IR and UV-Vis spectroscopies.
