Mapping the Environmental Microbiome

Recent incredible advances in DNA-based technologies promisingly facilitate and expand knowledge on the complex microbial communities most abundant on the earth. In this article, we presented several important and prevalent methodologies for microbiome research including computational analysis of 16S and metagenomic data, and the feasibility of mathematical modeling for shaping of the microbial community structure, which will become more important in the near future, as more microbiome data are accumulated.
