Abstract

Deep-seated gravitational slope deformations and their relationships with tectonic deformation of rocks is considered, to examine the viewpoint of Tectonics as a causative factor in slope deformation. First, a distinction is made between the different types of deep-seated gravitational slope deformation. Then, the geomorphological and structural effects of the different macrostructural deformations induced by tectonics, on the scale of the whole deforming ridge is briefly discussed. Finally, some case studies that represent either verified or possible cases of gravity deformation in response to tectonic activity are used as illustration.
