Abstract

Race is a social construct; it is a phenotype that has been ascribed meaning through history and human interaction. In order to confront racism and its effect in the medical system, we must speak about it openly. In this chapter, we will use the lens of implicit bias and structural racism to frame how medical management is directly affected by racism and racial bias. We will also provide tools and strategies on how to combat these forms of oppression in our practice.
