Abstract

Although the water-jet assembly has a lot of shipping applications after its development and has a good reputation, it is not known whether this creation 40 years ago can withstand the verification of modern CFD technology. Through the CFD calculation of water-jet assembly under forward state and reverse state, the internal flow of water-jet assembly during forward state and reverse state is studied. The results show that the flow characteristics of the water-jet assembly in the reverse state are different from the original design intention. There are reverse jets on both sides of the gap between the nozzle and the built-up rudder, and the non-twisted blades of the guide vane cannot completely eliminate the circumferential velocity of the fluid after the work of the impeller. Therefore, the built-up rudder and guide vane of waterjet assembly may need to be further optimized.
