Abstract: Summary It is shown that a series of papers by Rikitake and a paper by Rikitake & Yokoyama, concerning electromagnetic induction in a finitely conducting hemispherical shell, contain solutions that require correction. The solutions are compared to those obtained by Hobbs using an alternative method.
