Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) remains a major public health problem. The accompanying small and large vessel diseases lead to organ system dysfunction associated with a high morbidity and mortality This study adressed the effect of diabetes on cardiac venous system by assessment of the coronary sinus strain. Methods: 49 patients with and 53 without DM were included in the study, whose heart failure and heart valve pathology were excluded. Coronary sinüs strain (CSS) was evaluated with echocardiography in both groups. In addition, the aortic strain (AS) was assessed in both groups to evaluate the effects of DM on the arterial system.
