Abstract

The self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) method was used for the production of a porous TiNi body. Variables such as powder shape, size and its distribution, and ignition temperature were varied to investigate the relationship between the processing variables, microstructure and properties. Porosity, pore size and microstructure of the porous product were determined by porosimetry and SEM observation. Phases formed during SHS process were identified by XRD analysis. Mechanical properties and M/sub s/ temperature were determined by tensile test and DSC, respectively.
