A Comparative Study on Spontaneous Whelping, Assisted Whelping and Emergency Caesarean Section in Canines

A total of bitches presented to University Veterinary Hospital Kokkalai belonging to different canine breeds where included in the study to compare between spontaneous whelping SW assisted whelping AW and emergency C section EC out of which bitches were presented with difficulty in whelping and were normal whelping Mean age of the bitches in AW EC and SW was plusmn years plusmn and plusmn years respectively Out of bitches presented with difficulty in whelping bitches were primiparous Gestational length calculated from the last breeding date was plusmn days plusmn days and plusmn days in AW EC and SW respectively Gestational age of the foetuses determined by ultrasonography in AW and EC ranged from to plusmn days and to plusmn days respectively Heart rate of the foetuses determined by ultrasonography in AW and EC ranged from bpm to plusmn bpm and bpm to bpm plusmn respectively Out of bitches presented with difficulty in whelping per cent whelpings were managed with medical therapy using ecbolics per cent whelpings were managed with medical therapy along with manipulative delivery and per cent whelpings were managed with emergency Caesarean section
