Never Bite off More than You Can Chew: Report of a Toadfish Choking on a Sea Catfish

We report a choking event involving a Bocon toadfish Amphichthys cryptocentrus and a Madamango sea catfish Cathorops spixii. The sea catfish was lodged into the oral cavity of the toadfish and possibly caused the predator’s death by asphyxiation. This is the first record of a Bocon toadfish preying and choking on a sea catfish, but it is undeterminable whether the predation was accidental or purposeful.
