Abstract

The level scheme of 63Cu has been experimentally investigated through the 63Ni(α, pnγ)63Cu reaction using standard on-line γ-ray spectroscopic techniques. An isomeric high-spin yrast state J π = 17 2 + (τ = 6.1 ± 0.6ns; |g| is observed at 4498 keV excitation energy. The resulting 63Cu decay scheme is discussed in the framework of nuclear models. The g 9 2 single-particle shell orbital seems to be essential in the explanation of the high-spin positive-parity states proposed in this work, although these states cannot be simply interpreted by the coupling of a proton g 9 2 with a 62Ni core.
