Abstract
- Production optimization can be done on different levels, ranging from improving individual machines, over organizational aspects like Kanban, to optimizing the overarching production planning. The last approach may inherit the greatest potential. Still, it is also the most challenging since it requires a holistic systems engineering approach. One of the main challenges is the lack of an overall optimum. Wiendahl represents the conflict of objectives in the polylemma of production. The paper presents a practical framework for the optimization of production management processes. We derived it from a variety of corresponding projects. It describes how the conflict of objectives can be analysed systematically and a reasonable operational status can be derived. Questions of medium and short-term production planning are addressed. This includes the definition of the analysis objective, the analysis of the initial state and the optimization. The phases are each described with the help of examples.
