Abstract

11 patients with angiosarcoma of the breast have been reviewed. All patients were females, age range 18–45 years and all presented with a palpable breast mass of variable size ranging from 2–20 cm in diameter. Distant metastases were present at the time of diagnosis in one patient. All patients underwent surgery including seven total mastectomies, three wide local excisions and one biopsy. Three patients received postoperative radiotherapy and three received adjuvant chemotherapy. The median duration of follow-up was 60 months. Five patients were alive and disease free at 18, 44, 47 and 124 months. There was no evident correlation between tumour grade and survival but there was a relationship between tumour size and outcome, the four patients who presented with the largest tumours (> 6 cm) all dying from their disease.
