Abstract

The present article deals with the determination of thermal stresses in a thick annular disc under steady temperature field. A thick annular disc is subjected to convective heat transfer at the upper surface. Heat dissipates by convection from the lower boundary surface into the surrounding at the zero temperature. The thick circular edges are thermally insulated. The governing heat conduction equation has been solved by using Hankel transform method. The results are obtained in series form in terms of Bessel's functions. The results for displacement and stresses have been computed numerically and illustrated graphically.
