The Crystal and Molecular Structure of γ-Metasantonin

The crystal and molecular structure of γ-metasantonin has been determined by the X-ray method. The crystal is orthorhombic, P212121, with lattice parameters a=10.371(1), b=7.904(1), c=15.975(1) A. The molecule has two independent α,β-unsaturated ketone chromophores which take a chiral configuration. The chromophores show good planarity. A/B ring fusion is cis.
