Abstract

Since the completion of the JAERI Tokamak-60 (JT-60) tokamak machine and the NBI (neutral beam injection) and RF heating systems, various improvements have been made and new auxiliary systems have been installed. The approximately 8000 shots since the first plasma have yielded valuable operation and engineering experiences. Development of a high-speed pellet injector and a multijunction-type LH launcher has contributed to obtaining useful experimental results. The JT-60 will be upgraded by replacing the vacuum vessel and the poloidal field coils for the study of plasmas near the break-even conditions. >
