Abstract: Two α-cyanostilbene derivatives exhibiting bright emission in both well-dissolved solutions (Φ > 49%) and the solid state (Φ > 95%) have been synthesized as novel DSEgens for high-contrast mechanofluorochromism (>50 nm) and live cell imaging.
