Diseases of the nervous system

Despite the efforts of researchers all over the world, the mechanisms underlying the pathology of neurological diseases remain unclear. In this chapter, we review the molecular pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis because these disorders are among the most challenging. Familial hemiplegic migraine is also reviewed in this chapter as an example of a disease with known mutations in genes regulating neuronal function.
