Abstract
- Microalgae represent an active ingredient resource of great interest for cosmetic industry due to their protein content, up to 75% of dry weight in some species. Amino acids (5%–20%), carbohydrates (up to 20%), as well as lipids, vitamins (B, C, A), and trace elements (iron, copper, and zinc) can also be found in microalgae. Moisturizing, brightness, firmness of the skin, slimming and protection are arguments claimed by industrials. Genera such as Chlorella, Tetraselmis, Dunaliella, Emiliana, Noctiluca are the ones with concrete applications in the cosmetics industry.
