Hormone Replacement Therapy and Gynecologic Cancers

Long-term hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is being used not only for relief of immediate disturbances which arise during menopause, but also for the prevention of osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. The most serious concern about the use of HRT in menopause has been centered on potential oncologic risk; in particular, endometrial and breast cancer have been etiologically linked to the action of steroid hormones.
