Abstract
- This article argues that thinking of media/cultural/communication/etc. studies as entertainment studies might help the field break through numerous impasses, (1) moving beyond medium specificity, (2) honestly embracing the fact that we study entertainment, (3) forcing us to contextualize contemporary entertainment within broader histories of entertainment, (4) asking of us to examine news and ads as entertainment, and (5) analyzing that which does not entertain alongside that which does.
